Stockton Bourough Council owns a variety of Country Parks across the Borough which are managed by the Countryside Ranger Service within the Parks and Countryside Section.
Country Parks are the green lungs of the town and provide a vital link between people and wildlife.
They provide important opportunities for recreational activities, such as walking the dog, cycling or just taking a stroll in the fresh air, activities which are all essential to health and general well being.
Stockton's Parks offer safe havens for wildlife and are outdoor classroom where children can explore and experience nature at first hand.
Countryside Volunteering
Volunteers can assist with many different activities depending upon their interests and level of Ability*. Practical conservation work is a poular choice, with tasks often dictated by the changing seasons.
Planting hay raking and laying paths are just a few examples of the kind of work tackled by Countryside Volunteers. Regular Maintenance and good housekeeping duties are also part and parcel of countryside management and can involve litter-picking and general repairs.
Some volunteers prefer to just keep an eye on thier chosen site, reporting any issues of interest to the Rangers. Other voluntary opportunities include assisting with organisation and running of public events, helping with guided walks and providing information to visitors.
Volunteering can be the first step towards a career in countryside management and offers valuable experience for training schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
For more details either Request a Leaflet or Contact one of the relevant Rangers Teams at any one of the Parks within Stockton's Countryside Region.
