All of the main buildings on the park are covered by fire alarms. Should you hear an alarm, or be requested to vacate the building by a member of staff, please leave in a quiet and orderly manner, without shouting or panicking, by the nearest fire exit which will be clearly marked. Once out of the building please move to a safe distance until the fire brigade arrive and/or a member of staff gives the all clear.
Always prepare well when walking out on the site, wear sensible shoes or boots, take appropriate clothing for the season, perhaps a flask of warm drink in the winter or a bottle of water in the summer and a sugar snack should you require an energy boost. Always allow enough time for your walk so that you are not in a rush to return, as that’s when accidents can occur.
If possible take a mobile phone with you and in the event that you get into difficulty dial 999 and contact the rangers on 01740 630011. The A689 is some 2.5 miles north of the visitor centre and Hurworth Burn Reservoir is a further 3 miles beyond that so on long walks you can be some distance from any help. Mobile phone reception is variable around the site and you may not always be able to get a signal, if you are in trouble try to get a companion to get to the highest point in the landscape where a signal is more likely - it makes sense to go out with friends.
In the eventuality that you return late to the car park and the gates have been locked, please do not panic, call (01642) 528989 to have your car released. There will be a charge for this call out, which is another good reason why you should always allow enough time for your excursion within the country park.
Should you witness anti-social behaviour or a crime being committed on the park please report it to the Cleveland Police incident desk immediately so that prompt action can be taken, their number is 01642 326326. Your cooperation is appreciated in making Stockton’s open spaces a safe place for everyone to enjoy.
